Onomastics Statistical Analysis

While working as a student consultant at Biola's Quantitative Consulting Center, I was able to work on a project relating to onomastics and statistical testing of the Gospel's and Acts. This report examines the validity of Richard Bauckham's claims in "Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony," which suggest that names in the Gospels can provide historical insights. By comparing name frequencies in the Gospels and Acts with data from the Ilan database, it assess the accuracy of Bauckham's assertions.
The analysis utilizes statistical methods, including a chi-square test of independence, to evaluate the relationship between name origins in the biblical texts and historical records. The findings contribute to the scholarly discussion on the reliability of Bauckham's theories regarding the use of names for historical tracking.
